This video courtesy of Automated Cells & Equipment features the FANUC Robotics R-2000iB, a robot that is ideal for machine tending applications. This robot features a large work envelope and heavy payload capability.
This application utilizes FANUC iRVision to locate semi-organized raw parts on an incoming pallet. A camera and an LED light source are mounted within the end of arm tooling and are used to determine part location on the pallet. Once the part is located, the robot moves to the part, picks it, and then moves to a re-grip station. The robot places the part into the re-grip station and opens the gripper. This allows the part to precisely position itself within the fixture. The robot then re-closes the gripper on the part, moves to the machine tool, and waits for the machining process to finish.
Once the machining process is complete, the machine tool door opens allowing the robot to perform the part unload/load process. Communication between the robot and machine tool assures the precise transfer of parts to and from the machine chucks and includes coordination of when to open and close the machine door. This application also features the FANUC R-2000iB Robot mounted to a servo-driven linear track. This provides an expanded work envelope and promotes the coverage of many machine tools.
